The photos illustrate an example; A designer chose a floral rug for a project and needed a custom size. A standard 10×14 was cut in two, creating a square rug and runner (see floral rug pictured). She also needed a companion rug to coordinate. so the designer then found a vibrant striped rug design to accompany the floral piece. However, the colors and proportions were not working (red striped rug). By pulling the colors from the floral rug and changing scale of the stripes, a perfect companion rug was created (center rug)…a juxtaposed and complimentary pair of rugs to the decor.
