I recently returned from the annual rug market in New York City. Not only was the sky blue when we were there, but the recurring color theme that continues to emerging is blue in handmade oriental rugs, both tradition and contemporary. Muted and washed rugs have been become increasingly popular throughout the last 10 years, but have typically been more warm undertones. However throughout 2013 we’ve seen a trend towards cool tones, both in the highlights and the main field of rugs. Grays, soft blue and overall palettes of cool colors is prevalent as we head into 2014.
